Southwest School of Art: One of San Antonio's Most Soulful Wedding Venues

If you're planning a wedding in San Antonio and you haven't looked at the Southwest School of Art yet, stop what you're doing.

Tucked along the banks of the San Antonio River in the heart of downtown, this venue is unlike anything else in the city. It's historic without being stuffy. It's intimate without feeling small. And it photographs in a way that makes every image feel like it was made for a frame.

I've had the privilege of photographing weddings here and every single time, the venue does half the work for me.

A Little History

Built in 1867 as the Ursuline Academy — one of the oldest schools in Texas — the Southwest School of Art carries more than 150 years of history within its limestone walls. That layered history gives the space a soul that newer venues simply can't replicate.

What Makes It Special for Couples

The Coates Chapel. The River Garden backing up to the Riverwalk. The stained glass light. The arched doorways and limestone textures around every corner. This venue does half the work for me as a photographer — and that's not something I say lightly.

It works with any color palette, any aesthetic, any couple. And at golden hour over the River Garden — there is nothing else like it in San Antonio.

Good to Know

Spaces accommodate 12 to 500 guests. Saturday dates book fast — reach out earlier than you think you need to.
