There's a reason so many couples fall in love with Hotel Emma the moment they walk through the doors. Tucked inside a beautifully restored 19th-century brewery in San Antonio's Pearl District, this venue carries a kind of quiet, industrial romance that's nearly impossible to replicate anywhere else — exposed brick, iron beams, soaring ceilings, and warm, cinematic light that changes character from morning to golden hour. When E&K chose Hotel Emma for their wedding day, they gave us one of the most visually rich, editorial weddings I've had the honor of photographing this year.
Getting Ready
The morning started on both sides of the hotel, with the groomsmen keeping things easy and light while the bride and her bridesmaids settled into a calmer, more intimate energy just a few floors away. A quiet black-and-white portrait of the bride catching her breath before the whirlwind of the day, and a tender moment with her father in the hallway, set the tone for everything that followed.
The First Look
Hotel Emma's hallways and courtyards are made for exactly this kind of moment. The bride and groom shared their first look tucked away from the rest of the group, and it's one of my favorite parts of any wedding day to document — the ten seconds before someone turns around, and the flood of relief and joy right after.
The Ceremony
Guests gathered as the bride made her way down the aisle, and you could feel the whole room shift. Hotel Emma's architecture does a lot of the work here — the light pouring through, the texture of the brick, the way the space holds a ceremony without needing much added to it at all.
Reception Details
While the ceremony wrapped up, the reception space was already transforming — candlelight, layered florals, and table styling that leaned into Hotel Emma's warm, textured aesthetic. These are the details that often get overlooked in the excitement of the day but tell just as much of the story as any portrait.
Newlywed Portraits
Golden hour at Hotel Emma is something else entirely. We slipped away for a few quiet minutes just for the two of them at the hidden library and the moody tavern and clubroom in Sternewirth.
The Celebration
The reception brought out a different kind of energy entirely — a live band, a watercolor portrait artist capturing guests throughout the night, candid laughter between courses, and a dance floor that never really emptied. The first dance, in particular, is one of those moments that photographs itself when two people are genuinely present with each other.
